More Babies

We had a doe kindle Sunday night.   I haven't checked to see how many cause I don't like disturbing the doe or babies for the first few days.   We have another ready to kindle any day now too!

New kits! 8 little cuties! And more on the way!

This last litter produced a couple pretty kits.  One is dark grey the other is light grey.   I don't mind all the different colors we're getting as we're keeping the fur for any processed rabbits.  We've come to the conclusion the rabbits we got are mutts.   Eventually we may buy registered stock, but we'll keep these rabbits and some of the offspring that we like.   I'm not going to get rid of them because of the way they turned out.   Besides, I'm having fun pairing up rabbits to see what we end up with.  This last litter I paired our black female with the large brown male.  The kits are 3 black, 2 drk brown, 1 dk grey, 1 lt grey and a light brown.  I may keep the two grey kits to see what they turn out like.

The white CA rabbit that lost her litter is due to have a new litter any day now.  I actually expected them lastnight but not yet.  I am a bit concerned that we'll lose this batch as well as she doesn't want to use the nest box.  I keep putting the straw and fur in the box, she keeps pulling them out.

I paired two CA lastnight and this morning so we should have a litter of all white kits by the first week of May.

Unfortunatly, we lost the last litter.  She was a first time mom and didn't quite know what to do.   The good news is that another doe started nesting lastnight so we will be having more kits soon!

Expecting a new litter soon!

Doing chores tonight, I noticed mom was carrying around a mouthful of fur.   I stuffed a nesting box in just in case.  I like to move the moms into a large nursery cage so she has lots of room to raise her kits.  I'm picking up one tomorrow so I hope she can wait till I can move her.

If you have any good recipes for cooking rabbit, please feel free to share them!   I'll post them myself as I give them a try.   I hear you can use most chicken recipes!

They grow up so fast!

Rabbit #1 babies are over 4 wks already.  Their eyes were starting to open when we took this photo.   Will soon be time to wean away from mom and put into the grow out cages!  Rabbit #2 will be bred next week!

We are in the process of buying all new larger cages for all the house rabbits.   And they'll be moving into their own building within the next week.  We're expecting a blizzard this week so some of those plans may be delayed for a while.

I'm always on a look out to enhance our rabbitry!  Please don't hesitate to contact us if you have rabbits for sale!
